The school is located in Braintree, Massachusetts. The community exhibits tremendous support of our mission. Representatives from businesses, private high schools and other organizations attend events at the school and organize special projects with our students. Students work in supported employment programs accompanied by vocational education instructors within local businesses and do volunteer work within the community. Our students shop in area stores and participate in recreational activities at local facilities.

The school offers functional academic programs in a classroom setting with the emphasis on vocational and community living skills. At an early age, students are introduced to the concept of work by accepting responsibilities in the classroom.

We have a computer lab, a horticultural club, a café where students prepare and serve meals to staff and other students, a dry goods store, and a bakery on wheels.  We are continually developing new ways in which students can hone their social, academic and vocational skills, both on and off campus.

Our community-based curriculum expands the teaching environment and reinforces community and social skills taught in the classroom. Life Skills Classrooms, for the younger children focus on the acquisition of basic academic and functional skills.

The Prevocational Classrooms provide an introduction to vocational education, with classroom instruction and vocational training in the career sites. An on campus work center offers students the opportunity to complete real jobs in a vocational setting.

Cardinal Cushing Centers has implemented a life-skills curriculum used in both school and residential programs. This curriculum addresses life domains with an emphasis on developing positive habits and attitudes and the ability to make decisions. The curriculum includes elements of values, social skills and positive personal relationships adapted to the specific needs of each student.
