BJ's charity golf event raises over $1M

The BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. announced Tuesday its annual charity golf tournament raised nearly $1.3 million.

Proceeds from The BJ's Charity Championship, a three-day golf tournament held last summer, are administered through the BJ's Charitable Foundation and support community-based programs benefiting children and families. The funds have supported more than 150 community-based programs and more than 70 organizations in New England. Beneficiaries include St. Coletta & Cardinal Cushing Schools in Massachusetts, the Greater Boston Food Bank and Children's Hospital Boston.

In two years, the golf tournament has raised more than $2.3 million for charity.

Olay was the presenting sponsor for the 2006 tournament, which features 30 two-player teams from the Legends Tour competing for a $500,000 purse.

The 2007 BJ's Charity Championship will take place Aug. 3-5 at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy, Mass.

BJ's Wholesale Club Inc., headquartered in Natick, Mass., operates 173 clubs and 96 gas stations in 16 states.
