| Give A Day made a big
difference
May 1 - Several local companies lent us a few of
their employees for a day and we turned them into
painters and scrubbers and luggers.
Our volunteers and funders transformed a wing of our
old dormitory into enviable program space. Here, guests
at a reception see how their labor provided a yoga room
for student therapy. |

The House come to
Cushing
April 25 - Representative Robert Nyman from our
House of Representatives attended the sisters' liturgy
to present Sr. Clarinda and Sr. Magdalena with a
official citation from the House of Representative for
their outstanding service to the community.
Thank you, Rep Nyman, for recognizing our brave and
giving women.

| After 42 years of
service, farewell
April 25 - Sr. Clarinda and Sr. Magdelena are
returning to the St. Francis of Assisi Motherhouse in
Milwaukee after a brief 42 year stay at Cardinal Cushing
Centers. Both started as teachers and child care
workers. Sr. Clarinda later concentrated on
teaching, psychology, and historical records. Sr.
Magdalena baked millions of chocolate chip cookies and
lots of other goods.
A liturgy and reception were held in their honor.
We'll miss you. Be sure to email us.

Sisters visit
April 25 - We received a wonderful visit from the
members of the St. Coletta & Cardinal Cushing Schools of
Massachusetts Administrative Team and Sisters of St.
Francis of Assisi. Sr. Florence Deacon, OSF is our
director, and Sr. Diana De Bruin, OSF and Sr. Margaret
Kruse, OSF are Associate Directors. They attended
many meetings and stayed a few days. We're so glad that
you came! |

| Reconstruct the Eiffel
Tower. On your mark, get set, GO!
April 14 - Hanover - It's The Amazing Race in
Paris. These students spanned the globe accomplishing
mighty things, all by the close of the school day.

coffee with one cream on the side."
April 10 - Hanover - Bakery deliveries are BACK!
While our "Cushing Country Bakery" was transformed into
"Bass Village Cafe" our staff's beloved bakery and
coffee delivery service ceased. But now the bakery
is back in business. Don't forget to tip your
delivery person. Tips are pooled and used for
something special.

Paul Bass. He's a great friend of the school:
Benefactor, Board member, Springtime honoree,
fundraiser and all around "sweet" guy.
Funds to renovate "The Cushing Bakery" were received
from Procter & Gamble. Labor and materials on the
project were provided in part by J. Calnan & Associates.

furniture!
April 4 - Hanover - Thank you,
Hill Holliday, for the
desks, chairs, tables and bookcases that you sent to us
(via Walsh Movers, pictured here) after your move into
new offices in Boston. We'll give lots of second
life to the office furniture you no longer needed.

A Disney trip takes planning
April 2 - Hanover - The 21 year olds going on this
year's Trip of a Lifetime to Disney (thanks to a
community fundraiser executed by
South Shore Savings Bank)
met to discuss important travel things. Like:
Break in your sneakers before the trip.
Leave a little room in your suitcase for souvenirs.
Don't try and make jokes with airport security - be
serious.

March 21 - Hanover - Nineteen guys from Equity
Residential of Wellesley came in and completed a big
renovation project for us. Thank you so much
Equity Residential!

St. Patrick's Day
Dinner and Auction a big success!
March 15 - Just under $100,000 was raised by South
Shore Savings Bank and other sponsors of the St.
Patrick's Day Dinner & Auction. It's enough to send the
senior class on a Trip of a Lifetime to Disney.
A big thank you to our community!

March 1 - Braintree- Special Olympics comes to
Braintree and four schools join Cardinal Cushing Centers
in Olympic challenge.

March 13 - Hanover - Hanover in blue, Braintree in
green, the whole school turned out for the game.
Big pep rally at half time. This is BIG TIME!
Hanover won.

| Massasoit's Senior
Orchestra
March 13 - Hanover - We welcomed the Massasoit
Senior Orchestra and enjoyed the new and familiar songs
they played, like The Sound of Music. |

Making Leprechaun pins
for the Leprechaun sponsor ($2,500)
March 7 - Hanover - Those scheduled to graduate in
June are expected to help raise money for their senior
class trip to Disney. These students are creating
the Leprechaun hat lapel pins that will mark the $2,500
donors at the
St. Patrick's Day Dinner and Auction sponsored by
South Shore Savings Bank. |

March 3 - Hanover - Open a book and open the
world. Staff from departments throughout the campus took
time to read aloud to students. Tom even brought in his
kids to help him read. |

February 29 - Hanover - It's leap day, but Tom is
sitting very still, carefully gold-lettering signs that
will identify our buildings.

February 22 - Hanover - It's Fatima Hall and it's
getting a new roof. February vacation is a good
time to tackle some big maintenance projects because
there are fewer students on campus. This is just
one of the roofs on this very large home.

It's winter? No
way!
February 21 - Hanover - Between snow storms is a
great time for a little bike riding, if you can stand
the cold. Getting photographed with your helmet ON
is a good thing.

GROWS during school vacation
February 21 - Hanover - Many of our students went
home over vacation but these students from Archbishop
Williams High School, Spellman High School, and Hanover
High School came in and did hours of moving, painting,
and other general muscle work. Thank you!!!

What goes on over
February vacation
February 20 - Hanover - February vacation is an
excellent time to complete renovations in the school
building. This week we did lots of projects,
including new carpet in the halls.

February 15 - Hanover - Nothing says thank you
like a stack of pizza boxes and a room full of kids.
THANK YOU to all the students who helped with the tours
and luncheon when we hosted special education directors
on campus.

Nordic Ski
February 8 - Hanover - With 200+ acres to the
Cardinal Cushing campus, there's room for lots of
outside activity, in any season. Nordic ski is the
sport of choice for many students with a free afternoon. |

February 1 - Hanover - With Football Fever at an
all time high and The Big Game just days away, students
held a Pep Rally to show support for the home team.
Students participated in a trivia contest and Best
Dressed Fan contest. |

MA State Knights of Columbus celebrate
rededication Mass
January 26 - Hanover - The Fourth Degree Honor
Guard and members of the Massachusetts State Knights of
Columbus participated in the rededication of our
Children's Chapel. The Knights donated money to
completely renovate and restore the chapel which was
unsafe due to severe water damage. |

January 26 - Hanover - South Region Auxiliary
Bishop John Dooher and State Chaplain Bishop Daniel
Reilly celebrate Mass at the rededication of the
Children's Chapel with Deacon Joseph Baniukiewicz of
Christ The King parish, Worcester and two altar boys
from Cardinal Cushing Centers. Chapel renovations were made
possible by the Massachusetts State Knights of Columbus. |

January 19 - Hanover - Our Thrift Shop is open for
business six days a week. Bring your donations and
stop to browse!

Special Ed Directors, Out of District Coordinators took
a tour of campus and stayed for lunch. Cardinal
Cushing Staff listened for ways we can better serve the
public schools. |

Tournament Headquarters employees Give A Day
January 9 - Hanover - Paul Becker prepares to paint the
stairwell by carefully taping up the doors first.
A team of seven, led by Jessica McGondel of
Tournament Headquarters, put in a full day's work to
help make our school look better. |

January 3 - Hanover - Back to School means back to
the ole routine. We post our chores on the
refrigerator where everyone can see them. |

December 18 - You could buy this sock snowman at the
Christmas Bazaar. Students shopped for friends and
family at this very reasonably priced sale.

| Second snow storm this
week
December 17 - St. Francis and his beloved animals are
somewhat overwhelmed by the recent snowfall.
Our grounds crew did an amazing job with the roads,
sidewalks, and exits. The statues have to fend for
themselves until spring. |

Turning 22
December 17 - When a student reaches age 22, it's time
to move on.
This is this student's last week at Cardinal Cushing
Centers, Hanover. She will move to a group home
next week and begin at a job site the week after.
Good luck! You're a big girl now. |

December 15 - Is there this much snow in Bethlehem?
In Hanover, there's plenty of snow, but also a
wonderful view of the nativity at the
Portiuncula Chapel. You drive by. Get
out of your car and stop for a moment. Fill
yourself with the true meaning of Christmas.

| Is that Bob Sweeney?
December 14 - Indeed it is! Bruins alumnus, Bob
Sweeney visited the Hanover campus to accept our
students' thanks for throwing a big Bruins Holiday party
for us every year at the Boston Garden.
Bob promised to bring the Bruins Hummer next year.

this entry by designing their Holiday Card around it.
December 14 - Stephanie Cote of Rockland Trust presented
a $100 scholarship to this student for his winning entry
in the Holiday Card Contest.
Several non-profits were invited to participate in
the contest. Four won.
Two runners up received $50 savings bonds.
Everyone who entered the contest received a Participant
blue ribbon. Thank you

December 12 - These employees from
SteadyCare
spent a day cleaning woodwork and polishing with
polyurethane. Each door down that looooooong hall

December 11 - An independent judge decided which of
thirty entries would be made into a quilt square to
honor MAAPS 30th Anniversary. This entry won!
The second place entries are put on display in the
gymnasium. |

December 10 - Our new training room, located in the
Kennedy Building, held its very first class today.
New Employee Orientation was held in the spacious room.
Room renovation thank yous go to Campanelli Companies,
Hanover High School National Honor Society, Lowe's Home Improvement, Ocean
State Job Lot, Rockland Trust, South Shore Savings Bank, SteadyCare,
Mr. Domos, and Zildjian. |

Boston Bruins plan
Christmas party for Cardinal Cushing School students
December 4 - The TD Banknorth Garden and the Boston
Bruins welcomed Cardinal Cushing School students for a
Holiday Party, complete with lunch and a dance floor.
Our thanks to the Boston Bruins and TJX for Christmas
gifts for every student. A thank you to Bob Shea
for helping to organize the event. |

| State police descend
upon Cardinal Cushing School
December 4- The Massachusetts State Police brought Santa
Claus to campus by helicopter. Students and staff
watched from the hill. Pictured here, Sgt. Michael
Crosby. Afterwards, the State Police escorted the
bus convoy into Boston for a Christmas party at the
Garden. |

Bundle up, it's winter
in Massachusetts
December 2007 - You have to bundle up warm and dress in
layers, like these students, if you want to get through
the tough New England winters. And it's only
fall, technically. Winter starts in late
December and lasts forever. |

| Jolly Jaunt
December 1 - These folks from our Adult Program formed a
team for the Jolly Jaunt, a 2K walk to raise money for
Cardinal Cushing Centers Adult Athletics program and for
Special Olympics. The event was held at the
Taunton Holiday Inn. There was great food and
dancing after the walk. |

| MBA (Management By
Appreciation) Dinner
November 30 - These families, and others, received $500
scholarships from Cardinal Cushing Centers at the annual
MBA dinner. Scholarships are awarded to staff
members or immediate family members who are pursuing a
degree in education. |

| Grand Turkey!
November 20 - Director of Admissions, Michelle
Markowitz, was named Grand Turkey this year. A hat
and ride were designed just for her victory lap around
the gym. Michelle will keep the Grand Turkey
Trophy in her office until a new Grand Turkey is named
in 2008. |

First Place WINNER!
October 30 - "Hey Teacher Leave Them Kids Alone,"
says the sign held by the First Place entry in this
year's Pumpkin Festival. Congratulations to the
Explorer classroom for this award winning design!
Greenhouse and Bottles won the "Best Pumpkin Recipe"
award.

Physical Therapy Month
celebrated
October 29 - A Haunted Rec Center is a wonderful
way to celebrate Physical Therapy Month in October.
These PT staff members engaged students with balance
beam walking, ring tossing, and other challenges as they
made their way through the Haunted Rec Center.

October 28 - While you were sitting on the couch
watching yet another late night game, Voc Prep One was
busy putting the World Series trophy on display in this
"Most Original" use of pumpkins. Love the broom!

| Chapel Renovations

October 23 - The chairs arrived for the newly renovated
Children's Chapel located inside the Kennedy Dormitory.
A grant from the Massachusetts Knights of Columbus made
all the renovations possible.

Rockland Trust
employees Give A Day
October 19 - Work at Rockland Trust and you might just
end up working for us! A team of employees traded
the business suit for a paint brush and wash cloth and
helped us meet our maintenance goals. Diane
Kennedy (pictured) preps walls for the painters.
The rooms Rockland Trust worked on will house programs
with direct student benefit.

| Adult Golf Program
October 14 - Our adult program participated in a special
needs golf tournament run by golf professional Bob
Beach. It was held at the Braintree Municipal Golf
Course on October 14th
Father and son teams play with a a professional golfer.

Guilfoyle, Tim Rochon's partner (Margaret Lelakes) is
taking the photo. This team golfed with
professional Mike Crane. Everyone had a great time
at the golf tournament. |

October 5 - What a long and distinguished record of
fundraising on behalf of Cardinal Cushing Centers.

| Give A Day
October 3 - Employees of South Shore Savings Bank "Give
A Day" and help us paint a three rooms that will become
part of the "Mind, Body, Spirit" wing. Several
employees, from a float teller to the President & CEO,
picked up a paintbrush to help us reach our maintenance
goals on schedule.
