The Classrooms
Our
classrooms are bright and welcoming. We have small class sizes
and teacher/student ratios are high, between 1:1 and 1:5. Our
school day is 8:15 to 2:45, Monday through Friday. The
Hanover campus is always staffed, 365 days per year. The
academic year is divided into the regular school year and the summer
program.
Our education program allows healthy emotional, personal and
physical growth for each student. We foster academic and applied
academic opportunities both within and outside the classroom
setting. Classrooms are language based and use formal programs to
enhance language expression including sign and visual programs for
non-verbal and limited communicators.
Our classrooms are equipped with formal math and reading
programs. We integrate many adapted, supportive materials, including
hands-on and community experiences that support academic material. Students
explore the concepts
and practices of working in the real world through classroom instruction and pre-vocational
training. They learn and practice
cooperatively and as independently. They work on the valuable
skills of positive attitudes, habits of mutual respect, self-esteem,
self-expression/advocacy, decision making, and tolerance.
The program's social skills and character education components
strongly parallel the classroom and pre-vocational training.
Students who stay on campus through the summer break participate in
our Summer Program which continues the excellence of educational
opportunity in a more relaxed setting. Students utilize the
180 acres of the campus. In addition, there are opportunities
to leave campus and participate in community social and cultural
events.
